My great uncle Albert was a Cardiff tram driver. He joined up in Australia as a sapper in the 1st Australian Division Signals Company. The job was to lay and maintain telephone and other lines of communication across war zones. It took him to Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front. After four years he was repatriated to Australia, and later resumed his job in Cardiff.

The picture shows members of the Company wearing gas masks at Gallipoli. You can click anywhere on the photo to view and search on the Australian War Memorial website.

Soldiers were sent ANZAC biscuits by their families. I can’t make them because I am missing 3 important ingredients. But you can see the recipe here
